Center for Effective Collaboration and Practice:  Systems of Care Promising Practices in Children’s Mental Health
It is the mission of the Center for Effective Collaboration and Practice to support and promote a reoriented national preparedness to foster the development and the adjustment of children with or at risk of developing serious emotional disturbance.  To achieve that goal, the Center is dedicated to a policy of collaboration at Federal, state, and local levels that contributes to and facilitates the production, exchange, and use of knowledge about effective practices.

Connect for Kids: Children’s Mental Health
Connect for Kids helps adults make their communities better places for families and children. An alternative news source on the Web, Connect for Kids provides solutions-oriented coverage of critical issues for children and families. Our goal is to go far beyond the personal stories that dominate family coverage in most news outlets by bringing together meaningful information, success stories and ideas for action.

Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development
The Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development (GUCCHD) was established over four decades ago to improve the quality of life for all children and youth, especially those with, or at risk for, special needs and their families. Located in the nation's capital, this exceptional center both directly serves vulnerable children and their families, as well as influences local, state, national and international programs and policy. The GUCCHD is a designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities for the District of Columbia. It is home to a broad array of projects and programs:

  • Consortium for Children and Youth with Disabilities and Special Health Care Needs
    The Consortium, a national rehabilitation research and training center, is a partnership among Georgetown University's Center for Child and Human Development, The Heller School at Brandeis University, the Institute for Child Health Policy (University of Florida), and Family Voices, a national organization of families and friends working on behalf of children with special health care needs. The mission of this Consortium is to improve rehabilitation outcomes for children and youth with disabilities and special health care needs by increasing the effectiveness of service systems.
  • National Center for Cultural Competence
    The mission of the National Center for Cultural Competence (NCCC) is to increase the capacity of health and mental health programs to design implement, and evaluate culturally and linguistically competent service delivery systems.
  • National Technical Assistance Center for Childrens Mental Health
    The National Technical Assistance Center offers a variety of activities to provide information on "what works" and to help transform mental health and substance abuse services delivery systems for children and their families.  These activities include a broad range of training and technical assistance opportunities for states, tribes, territories, and communities to assist in transforming service delivery systems for children with mental health needs and their families Our training and technical assistance addresses the transformation goals and recommendations in the report of the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, Achieving the Promise.  
  • National TA Conference Calls

Child, Adolescent & Family - Systems of Care
SAMHSA’s National Mental Health Information Center: Family Guide to Systems of Care for Children with Mental Health Needs: Systems of care are developed on the premise that the mental health needs of children, adolescents, and their families can be met within their home, school, and community environments. These systems are also developed around these principles: child-centered, family-driven, strength-based, and culturally competent with interagency collaboration. The Child, Adolescent and Family Branch embraces and promotes these core principles of systems of care.

Systems of Care
National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information:  Many children in the child welfare system and those at risk of abuse and neglect have a variety of physical and mental health as well as social, emotional, and developmental needs. Child welfare professionals have worked for years with their counterparts in other agencies to piece together the resources available for these children and their families.

Technical Assistance Partnership for Child and Family Mental Health
The goal of the Technical Assistance Partnership for Child and Family Mental Health (Technical Assistance Partnership) is to support the Center for Mental Health Services' Comprehensive Community Mental Health Services for Children and Their Families Program SOC grant communities in their efforts to successfully develop and implement local systems of care. Seven of these communities are tribally affiliated.

Research and Training Center on Family Support and Mental Health
The Center is dedicated to promoting effective community-based, culturally competent, family-centered services for families and their children who are, or may be affected by mental, emotional or behavioral disorders. This goal is accomplished through collaborative research partnerships with family members, service providers, policy makers, and other concerned persons.   The Center's activities build on family strengths through applied multi-level research and capacity building in the following areas:

  • Identifying and promoting culturally competent policies and practices as part of an effective community response driven by the needs of families;
  • Clarifying values related to family partnerships and collaboration in all aspects of service delivery and evaluation; and
  • Building leadership capacity of families, advocacy groups, formal and informal service providers, local communities, and state and national-level organizations through development, dissemination, and training activities related to the Center's projects.
