Foster / Pre-Adopt Training The major emphasis of this program is to offer pre-service training for those interested in becoming foster parents using the Child Welfare of League of America PRIDE curriculum. This training program supports the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW) Program Improvement Plan (PIP) building on improved outcomes for children and their families. Child Welfare Scholars (Title IV-E) Stipend Program The Child Welfare Scholars program provides financial support to graduate and undergraduate social work students enrolled at Eastern Washington University or one of our partner universities. Selected students are placed in a Children and Family Services (CFS) setting for practicum with a focus on foster care and adoption. The goal of this program is to provide pre-service education and practice opportunities that support child welfare as a professional career. Substance Abuse /Child Protection Training Due to the high number of child protection cases associated with substance abuse, the Center has been charged with providing resources and in-service training to IDHW staff about addiction and to educate substance abuse agencies about the complexities of child welfare mandates. The Center provides technical assistance in grant application and evaluation, training, project evaluation, and assistance with the implementation of the Rocky Mountain Quality Improvement Grant which places Substance Abuse counselors in CFS offices. These counselors provide pre-service supports and appropriate referrals to families who meet the SA criteria. In-Service Training In partnership with IDHW, the Center provides continuing education opportunities to practicing social workers, resource families, and students. This training may be a single- or multi-day training event on an identified relevant topic, new worker or supervisory academy sessions, or themed conference events. Training sessions may be viewed on the ICWRTC Training Calendar. Supervisor Resources This new Supervisor Resources page supports IDHW’s Program Improvement Plan (PIP) to strengthen programs leading to improved outcomes for children and their families. As they are identified, resources and curriculum that support the practice of child welfare supervision will be added. Children’s Mental Health Evaluation and Training In partnership with IDHW, the Center contributes to planning and logistical support of the annual statewide system of care conference for children’s mental health. This conference offers technical assistance and training to family members, Regional and Local Children’s Mental Health Councils, community partners and professionals in support of building a statewide infrastructure for delivery of mental health services to children and families. The Center’s Research Director, along with contracted local evaluation specialists, work cooperatively with Boise State University and Northwest Nazarene University to complete the Local and National evaluation required under the Building on Each Other’s Strengths grant. Child Welfare Resource Library The Resource Library is dedicated to offering statewide access to a growing collection of pertinent and timely child welfare titles. The Library maintains a wide assortment of current publications, printed material, video, and electronic materials in the areas of foster care, adoption, children’s mental health, substance abuse, and social work education, practice, research and legislation, and provides information and support resources. The Library also includes video holdings formerly maintained at FACS Central Office in Boise. Materials are selected to facilitate the development of creative and informed social work practice, supervision, and research for children in the state of Idaho. Logistical Support for Training and Events The Center maintains a Conference Coordinator, who assists with planning and logistics for approved conferences and training events that correspond to and target child welfare programs and practice. For information, contact Dana Broderson. Grant Application Technical Support and Assistance The Center assists with identification and application for grant funded projects that support the goals of IDHW and CFS in their efforts to improve safety, permanency and well-being for children.
