Foster Families Desperately Needed in Bonner and Boundary Counties

SANDPOINT -- The Idaho Child Welfare Research & Training Center says more foster and adoptive parents are needed in Bonner and Boundary counties in northern Idaho.

Recruitment coordinator Julie Gardner tells the Bonner County Daily Bee that it can be challenging finding enough foster homes in rural areas.

Kinderhaven in Sandpoint provides emergency care if a foster home isn't available and if Kinderhaven has space.

Bonner County Magistrate Court Judge Debra Heise presides over child-protection cases. She says the absence of foster families makes it more difficult for the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare to provide services for abused and neglected children.
